Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening trophy on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match between the French league champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger found the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side struck two times late to seize a shock advantage. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing penalty victory.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
